The Idea – Understanding Underlying Probability

In much of what follows, we will be assuming that there is some sort of probability density function which generates data that we wish to analyze.   That is, when we obtain a datum point we are performing an experiment or observation where the results of the experiment/observation occur as generated by a probability density function.   So, for example, we might poll people at an airport, inquiring as to whether or not they are smokers.   We assume that there is some sort of “yes-no”.
